Dear Parents,
I hope you and your families are keeping safe and well.
As previously advised, and assuming things continue to go to plan, we should be moving towards the resumption of football activities in the next few weeks. Ahead of that, we wanted to use the downtime we have left to get the kids thinking about football by trying to raise some money for a couple of very deserving charities - both serving groups that have been very hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
ALONE - works supporting older people to age at home. Our older family members and neighbours have been particularly impacted by the coronavirus and ALONE has been working tirelessly to alleviate their stress and suffering.
Laura Lynn - is Ireland's children hospice and is located close to our club. It does incredible work providing specialist palliative and supportive care services to meet the needs of children with life limiting conditions and their families in Ireland.
We are looking to walk a total of 1,800km which is equivalent to the distance between Granada FC in Dublin and FC Granada in Spain (who play in La LIga) - and of course we would be delighted to exceed that target. The walk is open to all current and past members of the club - children and adults - all we ask is that you wear some Granada kit, or colours, as you walk, and obviously observe the appropriate social distancing guidelines. Dates and further details of how you record your walks will be released soon.
We are attempting to raise €10,000 in total so once you have finished walking please make a donation on our gofundme page - details to follow. There are prizes of unique Granada "Lightning" jerseys for those who walk the furthest / raise the most money - with additional adult prizes also on offer! All our costs have been covered by sponsors so every cent donated will be shared between the two charities.
This is a great opportunity to get everyone back into football mode and raise funds for two really deserving charities.
Full details to follow on social media in the coming days.
Please support the initiative and stay safe.
Yours in football,
Ciaran
